Can Your Great Idea Become a Great Business?

“Problem solving is in our blood,” said Rob Arndt, CEO of BufferSprings.  “Veterans make up 5% of the total US population but account for 10% of small businesses.”

On November 2, Rob kicked off the first of three SpringLaunch courses with our first presentation, “Turn your Great Idea into a Great Business.”

If you want to start your own business and you believe you have a great idea, Rob recommends that before you launch, you need to identify the problem clearly and decide if your solution is a “vitamin or a painkiller.”

Rob also suggests using the Eisenhower Matrix as a way to determine where the problem lies within a framework of determining how important or urgent it is.  He says, “as veterans, we look for ways to go over a problem, around it, or straight through it.”

The theory goes that there are 3 types of businesses…

one icon gold

Painkiller

Those who solve problems, disrupt sectors, or innovate on purpose.

two icon gold

Vitamin

Those who strive to make things better, holistically, acting on their values.

three icon gold

Candy

Those who make us smile with distraction and light relief.

Problem analysis is the first step before you launch.  Rob covers several other very interesting and helpful subjects as you figure out what your business will do and what problems it will solve.
